Adnan Sethi - Engineering & Head of Business Development
What’s your background?
I’ve worked in recruitment for 8 years previously concentrating on the education and facilities management sectors, two quite diverse arenas in which I learned to adapt to situations as they arise and develop and how, despite their differences, all recruitment is pretty similar once you appreciate how to relate to and work with both clients and candidates to identify and bring together pieces of the puzzle that fit together.
What does your day-to-day job involve?
On a daily basis I’m in contact with so many people and have to be able to turn my hand to anything and everything from securing new business to counselling candidates through life’s difficulties. In my experience recruiters pretty much have an ongoing job description and whilst the role is always developing once you become a recruiter its difficult to envisage yourself doing anything else. The pace of the role and the challenges become the norm.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Speaking to clients and identifying ways in which I can add value to their current operation through recruitment and selection.
What are your interests outside of work?
I enjoy watching boxing and UFC. I have been a boxing fan since I was around 8 years old. I play 5 a side for a local Sunday football league. Most of all I enjoy spending time with my family, I have two young daughters that keep me very busy outside of work, I currently seem to spend a lot of my spare time in Smiths Toys!
If a film were made about your life tomorrow who would you cast to play you as
a young adult? Daniel Ratcliffe, immensely talented.
your current age? Riz Ahmed, purely because he is superbly talented and has performed in a variety of acting roles.
in old age? Tom Hardy, although I look nothing like him, he is a fantastic actor with incredible abilities, clearly one who understands his characters and always portrays them very well.
If you were represented by a cartoon character which would it be?
I have been told many times that I look like Scar from the Lion King, however if its my choice then I would say Popeye, the thought of eating spinach and receiving instantaneous strength is appealing, he .makes a pipe look elegant too!
Who is your all time sports hero?
What makes you smile?
My daughters, a good fish and chip supper and the thought of being a millionaire.
What makes you cringe?
Mould – I absolutely cannot stand mould. It’s so bad that I can never eat anything again that I have ever seen that was mouldy, if I ever saw a mouldy steak I’d never be able to eat steak again no matter how great it looked.
What 3 words would you use to describe yourself?
What 3 words would others use to describe you?
The same as above obviously!!! Although Kate has stepped in and suggested
What super power would you like to have?
Don’t judge me, but I want it all – unlimited superpowers forever, so I want to be Superman, Batman and Spiderman all at the same time and have this super power forever.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Honesty and integrity are essential to build any relationship.
Seeing as we’re recruiting food manufacturers – what’s your favourite food?
By far the hardest question ever. I am very fond of a good fish and chip supper, but definitely prefer a steak dinner. So let’s go with that (fillet steak on the bone, with all the trimmings). You see why I couldn’t face a mouldy steak, ever!
